The Mamprugu Youth Association (MAYA), Bawku Chapter, has strongly criticized NPP flagbearer aspirant Kennedy Agyapong and his spokesperson, Kwasi Kwarteng, over comments alleging that former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia imposed a rival chief on Bawku during the 2024 elections.
In a statement issued on September 5, 2025, MAYA described the remarks as “reckless, malicious, and dangerous,” warning that they could inflame the already fragile chieftaincy situation in Bawku. The group noted that these allegations originated from the NDC during the 2024 campaign and accused Agyapong’s team of “shamelessly recycling propaganda” that undermines peace efforts.
“We will not allow anyone, no matter how influential, to sacrifice Bawku’s peace for political expediency,” the statement stressed.
MAYA has demanded an unconditional apology and cautioned that failure to retract the comments will result in Agyapong’s campaign team being declared unwelcome in the area.
The statement, signed by Chapter President Seidu Awudu and Secretary Abdul Majeed Bagura, called on politicians to prioritize unity and responsible engagement as the nation moves closer to the next general elections.
