Residents of Dambai in the Krachi East Municipality have violently attacked officials of the Oti Regional Environmental Taskforce while they were performing their duties. The taskforce was established last week by the Oti Regional Coordinating Council to address the rising cases of typhoid fever in the region, with over 23,000 cases reported in the first half of 2025.
The confrontation occurred when one of the taskforce officers refused to accept a summons letter from a resident, leading to heated exchanges. The situation escalated, resulting in the attack on the officials.
Regional Environmental Health Officer Cynthia Sekyere has appealed to the residents to cooperate with the taskforce. She emphasized that the taskforce’s efforts are aimed at ensuring a clean and safe environment, which will help reduce the prevalence of typhoid and other sanitation-related diseases in the region. Sekyere urged the residents to understand the importance of the taskforce’s work and to support them in their mission to improve environmental health in the area.
