A Gender-Based Violence Court in Accra has sentenced a 55-year-old trader to 12 months’ imprisonment for the sexual assault of a seven-year-old girl at Abossey Okai.

The convict, Kweku Fosu, pleaded guilty to a charge of indecent assault and was duly convicted and sentenced by the court, presided over by Mr Kwabena Kodua Obiri-Yeboah. In his plea, Fosu expressed remorse and assured the court that he would not repeat the offence, stating that he was unable to explain what compelled him to commit the act.
Presenting the facts of the case, the prosecution, led by Superintendent of Police Agnes Boafo, told the court that the complainant is a cleaner and the victim’s father, while the convict is a trader.

All parties reside at Abossey Okai.
According to the prosecution, the incident came to light in November 2025 when the victim complained of itching in her genital area and was initially given first aid. When the discomfort persisted, her mother examined her and observed sores and redness around the vagina.
The victim subsequently disclosed that she had been indecently assaulted by the convict.

Following this revelation, the complainant reported the matter to the police on December 10, 2025. A Police Medical Report Form was issued, enabling the child to receive medical care at a government hospital.

Superintendent Boafo further informed the court that the convict was arrested on January 8, 2026, cautioned, and later charged with the offence, leading to his eventual conviction and sentencing.
