A tragic accident occurred at Kormantse in the Central Region on September 6, involving a Mercedes Benz and a Hino truck on the Cape Coast-Accra Highway. The collision resulted in 10 reported deaths. According to the Ghana National Fire Service, the Mankessim Fire Rescue Team was dispatched to the scene at 0350 hours.
Upon arrival, firefighters found that most occupants had managed to self-rescue with assistance from passersby. However, two trapped persons were extricated and suspected dead. Five people, including a child and the truck driver, sustained injuries and were confirmed by the police.
The road was cleared and reopened to traffic with support from other stakeholders. The cause of the accident is yet to be established, leaving a trail of devastation and grief in its wake.
