Tensions ran high in the Teshie Traditional Area during the Homowo Kpokpoi Sprinkling Ceremony on Tuesday, August 26, as violent clashes broke out, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and leaving several others injured.

The victims, identified as 30-year-old Eddy Blessing and 27-year-old Patrick Maamah Martey Fio, were pronounced dead on arrival at the Lekma Hospital after sustaining gunshot wounds.

According to eyewitnesses, the disturbances began early in the morning when rival groups disrupted the peaceful ceremony, hurling stones and firing sporadic gunshots. The situation escalated, forcing the police to intervene and temporarily restore calm.

This brief lull allowed Paramount Chief Gbetsoolo Nii Ashitey Akonfra III to perform his traditional rites. However, fresh clashes erupted later in the morning, involving factions loyal to different traditional leaders.

The violent scenes created chaos at the emergency units of local hospitals as family members rushed to seek medical attention for their loved ones. Fortunately, the police and health authorities managed to contain the situation, and calm has since been restored to the area.

The Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) of the Ledzokuku Municipal Assembly has launched an investigation into the incident, vowing to identify and apprehend the perpetrators. In a statement, MUSEC expressed condolences to the bereaved families and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

The council also urged residents and traditional factions in Teshie to remain calm and support the ongoing investigations to ensure lasting peace in the area.
