Ghana has been thrown into mourning following the death of Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, widely revered as the “Star of Africa.” The visionary founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission and the Kantanka Group of Companies passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at the age of 77.

His passing was officially announced by his daughter, Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo, Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, in a heartfelt statement on behalf of the Safo family and the Kristo Asafo Church.

Our father was more than just a man of God. He was a true genius, a beacon of hope, and a father to the fatherless. Ghana and the world have lost an irreplaceable icon,” the family noted.

A Legacy of Innovation and Faith

Apostle Safo’s life was a unique blend of spiritual devotion and technological brilliance. He was the driving force behind Ghana’s indigenous automobile brand, Kantanka Automobiles, which became a symbol of African creativity and self-reliance. Through the Kristo Asafo Mission, he built schools, hospitals, and community support systems that transformed countless lives.

Beyond technology, Apostle Safo was celebrated for his philanthropy, agricultural innovation, and his deep commitment to empowering the less privileged.

A Nation in Mourning

Tributes have poured in from across the nation. Many Ghanaians describe him as a national treasure whose work transcended religion and industry. His contributions to science, technology, and faith will remain etched in Ghana’s history.

The Safo family has appealed to the public for privacy during this period of mourning, assuring that details of funeral arrangements will be shared soon.
