Ghanaian dancehall artist Stonebwoy was overcome with emotion during a recent visit to the Nsawam Medium Security Prison after coming face-to-face with a childhood friend serving time there.
The award-winning musician, who was at the facility to perform and donate to inmates, broke down while addressing the gathering. According to Stonebwoy, seeing someone he grew up with behind bars hit him hard and served as a sobering reminder of how unpredictable life can be.
“Seeing someone I grew up with in there overwhelmed me,” Stonebwoy shared. “It reminded me how fragile life is. Anyone can end up on the wrong side of the law.”
Stonebwoy noted that his act of giving was deeply personal, rooted in his own upbringing in Ashaiman where he witnessed struggle firsthand. For him, true giving comes from the heart and from lived experience.
The visit forms part of Stonebwoy’s ongoing efforts to give back to society and connect with communities beyond the stage.
