Ghana’s sports fraternity is celebrating another milestone as Charles Osei Asibey, fondly known as the “General”, has been unanimously re-elected as Vice President of the World Armwrestling Federation (WAF) at the body’s 47th Congress in Albena, Bulgaria. His renewed mandate will run until 2029, cementing his place as one of the most influential figures in global armwrestling.

Asibey, who doubles as President of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation (GAF) and President of Armwrestling Africa, described his victory as both humbling and inspiring. “I am elated and poised to further influence the development and promotion of armwrestling to new heights. This is an opportunity to leverage my global networks to drive growth, innovation, and excellence in the sport,” he said after the election.

His re-election highlights the confidence the global armwrestling community has in his leadership and further strengthens Ghana’s influence in international sports. Under his leadership, Ghana’s national team, the Golden Arms, has achieved remarkable success, including winning 55 medals at the Africa Armwrestling Championship.

Stakeholders say his continued role at the global level is expected to attract more resources, sponsorships, and international opportunities for Ghanaian and African athletes, while consolidating the country’s growing reputation as a powerhouse in armwrestling.
