The Government of Ghana has announced that the complete list of over 2,500 scholarship beneficiaries will be published starting October 1, 2025. The move, officials say, is designed to ensure fairness, transparency, and accountability in the administration of the national scholarship scheme.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, explained that the decision would finally put an end to the secrecy and allegations of favoritism that have long surrounded the award of scholarships.
Beneficiaries include both Ghanaian students and learners from other ECOWAS countries, with focus on critical areas such as medicine, engineering, agriculture, and technology. These sectors, the government notes, are essential to addressing national development needs and preparing the youth for the future job market.
For the first time, parents, students, and the general public will be able to verify names online through the Ghana Scholarships Secretariat portal (scholarships.gov.gh). This means that students who applied can easily confirm whether they have been awarded a scholarship without relying on unofficial sources.
Education stakeholders have welcomed the decision, saying it will boost public trust in the system and ensure that scholarships reach deserving and qualified candidates. Many parents have also expressed relief, noting that open access to the list will remove doubts and give clarity to families planning their children’s education.
The government’s move marks a significant shift in how scholarships are handled in Ghana — from closed-door processes to a more transparent and accessible system.
