Operatives of the Bayelsa State Police Command’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit have arrested a pastor, Elijah Oro, in connection with an alleged plot to assassinate a rival prophet within the state.
According to police accounts, the suspect, a native of Delta State, is accused of contracting a 21-year-old man, identified as Samuel Daniel, to execute the planned attack. Daniel is said to be a member of the Greenlanders cult group.
The arrest was confirmed in an official statement by the Bayelsa State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Musa Mohammed, who explained that the operation was carried out following credible and actionable intelligence.
DSP Mohammed disclosed that both suspects were apprehended on January 28, 2026, at approximately 10:35 a.m. Samuel Daniel, who hails from the Nembe Ogbolomabiri Community, and Pastor Elijah Oro, aged 59 and from Ozoro in Delta State, were taken into custody over their alleged involvement in an attempted attack on the life of a prophet, whose identity was not disclosed by the police.
Preliminary investigations, according to the police spokesperson, revealed that Daniel was arrested at the premises of the intended victim, a development that further strengthened suspicions surrounding the alleged plot.
During interrogation, Daniel reportedly admitted to being a member of the Greenlanders cult and confessed that he was hired by Pastor Oro to carry out the assassination. Police authorities say investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the case and to determine the extent of involvement of all parties connected to the alleged crime.
