Going Back to the Cassette Era Won’t Work in This Era – Herty Borngreat

Legendary Ghanaian gospel artiste Herty Borngreat has made headlines again, this time following her recent revelation about having nine children.

Speaking yesterday on Kumi Kasa’s Max Drive Show, Herty addressed comments made by fellow gospel singer Phillipa Baafi. Phillipa had expressed a wish to return to the cassette and CD era, when artists could sell physical copies in large numbers and earn significantly more than they do today in the digital age.

Herty acknowledged that Phillipa’s concern is valid, but she believes a return to physical sales is no longer realistic. “In this era of the internet, I think it’s almost impossible,” Herty explained. “During the CD days, that was the norm. There were no digital stores. But as the industry has evolved, going back to CDs isn’t possible because we’ve moved entirely to digital streaming platforms.”

Her comments add to the ongoing debate among Ghanaian musicians about revenue, piracy, and how streaming has changed the economics of music.
