Residents of Lartebiokorshie in Accra are reeling from shock and loss after a fierce fire outbreak on Tuesday destroyed a warehouse and several nearby houses, displacing families and destroying livelihoods.

The fire, which broke out at Abooyo LP near Radio Gold, gutted a warehouse suspected to be storing shoes before spreading rapidly to residential homes. At least seven houses were affected, leaving families homeless and struggling to salvage their belongings.

Eyewitnesses recounted the panic as thick smoke and flames engulfed the area.

We tried to carry out what we could, but the fire was too strong. Some of us have lost everything,” one resident said, fighting back tears.

The Ghana National Fire Service faced challenges as fire trucks reportedly arrived without water, slowing down the initial response. Relief came when a nearby pure water company rushed in with over eight tankers, helping firefighters battle the blaze. One firefighter sustained injuries during the operation and is receiving treatment.

As a precaution, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) disconnected power lines in the area to prevent further risks.

While no fatalities have been recorded, the scale of property loss has left many residents devastated. Community members are calling for urgent support, as investigations continue into the cause of the fire, suspected to have been triggered by a lit cigarette.
