In a candid interview on The Delay Show, former President John Agyekum Kufuor disclosed that he was entirely left out of discussions regarding the National Cathedral project, a development that has sparked widespread debate and controversy. Kufuor unequivocally stated that he had no involvement in the planning or approval process of the project and was never approached for his input.

“I wasn’t consulted on the National Cathedral project. I don’t attend Cabinet meetings. All of a sudden, you realise something was going on,” he remarked. Kufuor explained that his initial understanding was that the cathedral was a private initiative led by individuals seeking to honour God. However, he later discovered that government lands were being utilised for the project and public buildings had been demolished to make way for construction.

The National Cathedral project, announced in 2018, has been a subject of intense national debate. Critics have raised concerns about the use of public funds, the demolition of state-owned properties, and the lack of transparency in the project’s procurement and contract processes. The project’s progress has been hindered by financial challenges and unresolved controversies, leaving the partially completed structure abandoned.

Kufuor’s revelation highlights the perceived disconnect between the government’s decision-making process and the involvement of key stakeholders, including former leaders who have played significant roles in shaping the country’s development.
