MultiChoice Group has dismissed claims by the Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, that the company agreed to reduce subscription prices in Ghana.
In a statement released on Friday, September 5, shortly after the Minister’s press briefing, MultiChoice clarified that while discussions are ongoing, no agreement has been reached on a price reduction. “We will fully participate in the established Working Committee. However, we wish to clarify that MultiChoice Group has not agreed to a price reduction,” the company stated.
Earlier, the Minister told journalists that MultiChoice had accepted the need for a reduction and requested 30 days to finalize the percentage cut. However, he believes 14 days is enough to conclude the discussions.
To fast-track the process, a stakeholder committee has been set up comprising representatives from the Ministry, the National Communications Authority (NCA), MultiChoice Ghana, and MultiChoice Africa. The Minister announced he will personally chair the committee to ensure timely progress.
