A tragic accident on the Accra–Cape Coast Highway early Wednesday morning has left one woman dead and about twenty others injured.

The crash, which occurred around 5:30 a.m. in front of the NDC Regional Office in Cape Coast, involved a Mercedes Sprinter minibus with registration number CR 623-25 and a stationary Man Diesel truck with registration number WR 1546-V.

According to eyewitnesses, the truck had developed a mechanical fault and was left parked on the road. The Sprinter, while overtaking another vehicle, collided with the stationary truck, resulting in the fatal crash.

Rescue officers from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) rushed to the scene and extricated three trapped passengers from the wrecked minibus. Sadly, one woman was confirmed dead. Eighteen other victims, suffering various degrees of injury, were given emergency treatment by the GNFS and the National Ambulance Service before being transported to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital.

The scene has since been cleared, but the accident once again highlights the dangers of reckless overtaking and the risks posed by broken-down vehicles left unattended on major highways.
