Suspect Who Shot Dompoasehene At Obuasi Funeral Arrested

The Ashanti South Regional Police have apprehended a 30-year-old man, Nana Yaw Dankwa, in connection with the shooting of the Dompoasehene at a funeral ceremony in Obuasi. The incident occurred on Saturday, November 29, 2025, when officers on duty heard a gunshot and swiftly responded to the scene. Upon arrival, they successfully disarmed the suspect and retrieved an unregistered single-barrel gun loaded with ammunition.

 

The chief, who hails from Adansi Dompoase, was rushed to a medical facility for treatment and has since been discharged.

 

The suspect is currently in police custody, pending further investigation and subsequent arraignment in court. Authorities are emphasizing the importance of refraining from carrying weapons to social gatherings, particularly funerals, where emotions can run high and situations can escalate quickly.
