A tragic incident has occurred at Santasi Adjamasu in the Ashanti Region, where a laborer contracted to clear excess mud from a deep borehole lost his life in a devastating fall.
The unfortunate event unfolded on Wednesday morning, when the worker, operating within the confines of the 60-foot shaft, began experiencing respiratory distress due to the intense heat and poor ventilation.
As he struggled to breathe, the laborer attempted to climb out of the borehole but unfortunately lost his strength, slipped, and fell to the bottom of the shaft. The impact of the fall resulted in a fatal head injury. Upon hearing the commotion, residents quickly alerted the authorities and rallied together to initiate a rescue effort.
A combined team of community members and emergency responders worked tirelessly for nearly nine hours to retrieve the victim from the depths of the borehole. Despite their valiant efforts, the laborer was unfortunately pronounced dead upon extraction at around 7 p.m.
The police have since visited the scene, and the body has been taken to a morgue pending further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
