A 25-year-old man has tragically lost his life in an abandoned illegal mining pit at Bogyawe in the Bekwai Municipal area of the Ashanti Region. The incident occurred on Wednesday, January 7, when the victim reportedly entered the pit but failed to resurface.
Rescue efforts are underway, but the body remains unretrieved as of four to five hours after the incident. Community members are calling on authorities to take urgent action to reclaim abandoned galamsey sites and compel miners to properly reclaim degraded lands to prevent further loss of life.
The police have been informed, and investigations will commence once the body is retrieved.
