A mobile money vendor in Hohoe Municipality’s Torkoni/Blave area allegedly took his own life, leaving residents in shock and despair. The incident occurred on Thursday, January 8, 2026, around 6:00 pm. The deceased, yet to be identified, sold items like toothpaste, sponges and brushes at the Hohoe main lorry station and was reportedly struggling with financial demands.
According to Mr. Derek Adzoe, Assembly Member for the Torkoni/Blave Electoral Area, the vendor received threatening visits from individuals demanding money, which he said he would settle via mobile money or electronic cash. These interactions seemed to have affected the vendor’s mood, with his brother noticing a change after receiving calls.
When the brother returned home, he found the door locked and, after several failed attempts to reach the vendor by phone, the door was forced open, revealing the tragic scene. Authorities have conveyed the body to the morgue for further investigation. The incident has left traders and residents deeply saddened and concerned about safety and community wellbeing.
