The Bekwai roundabout to Santasi road project has resumed after a six-month hiatus, with contractors working diligently to complete the dual carriageway by July this year. This crucial infrastructure project connects the Central Business District of Kumasi to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, a major referral hospital in the Ashanti region, and facilitates vehicular movement between at least three southern regions of Ghana.

The project’s significance cannot be overstated, particularly given its impact on healthcare services. Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, the Kumasi mayor, emphasized the importance of completing the road, citing the challenges faced by ambulances attempting to access the hospital via Danyame when the road is impassable. The government has made a significant payment to contractors, enabling them to resume work on the project.

According to Francis Kofi Yankey, the acting resident engineer for ABO Consult Limited constructions, the team has prioritized the right lane of the road and plans to asphalt it from Santasi toward Bekwai. By the end of three months, this section is expected to be asphalted, with both sides of the dual carriageway likely completed by July. The first phase of asphalting a single lane is slated for completion within the first quarter of the year.
