Ghanaian musician and cultural ambassador Wiyaala, affectionately known as the Lioness of Africa, is set to be enskinned as the Paramount Queenmother of the Funsi Traditional Area in the Upper West Region. The ceremonial enskinment, scheduled for January 17, 2026, will be performed by the esteemed elders and kingsmen of Funsi, following the area’s recent elevation to paramountcy status.
This momentous occasion marks a new chapter for the traditional area, and Wiyaala has aptly described it as historic. To commemorate this significant event, Wiyaala has also introduced the Pulung Festival, which will take place on the same day as the enskinment ceremony.
The traditional enskinment ceremony will commence in the morning, followed by a vibrant cultural and musical festival in the evening, featuring an array of performances by notable artists, including Wiyaala herself, Gally, Samson B, and The Yaga Yagas, among others. The festival, set to kick off at 6:30 p.m., promises to be an unforgettable experience, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the Funsi Traditional Area.
The elders and kingsmen of the Funsi Paramountcy have confirmed the enskinment ceremony, inviting members of the public to participate in this momentous occasion, which is expected to be a major cultural milestone for the area.
