A violent clash over a land dispute in the Savannah Region’s Gbenyiri suburb has left five men dead and six others seriously injured. The incident occurred on Sunday night in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba area, sparking widespread concern over the escalating land dispute between two rival factions.
According to reports, the gun battle erupted after a long-standing land dispute between the two groups turned deadly. The injured were rushed to the district hospital in Sawla for treatment. The situation became even more tense when the chief of Gbenyiri, who had fled his palace seeking shelter at the Kalba chief’s palace, was attacked and killed along with his escort while returning home.
The Savannah Regional Police Command has deployed a combined team of security personnel to both Kalba and Gbenyiri to protect lives and properties. The regional police commander, DCOP Awowolo, is part of the team working to restore calm to the area. Authorities are yet to make any arrests in connection with the incident.
