Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the 2024 running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called on party members to close ranks and move forward together following the election of former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2028 elections.

In a Facebook post shared on Saturday, January 31, Dr Opoku Prempeh expressed deep appreciation to party delegates for their active participation in the primaries and for the confidence they have reposed in Dr Bawumia’s leadership. He described the outcome as a clear reflection of the delegates’ belief in the party’s vision of renewal and progress.

He further commended the general conduct of the primaries, praising the party leadership, organisers, and fellow aspirants for contributing to a process marked by order, discipline, and mutual respect. According to him, the maturity displayed throughout the contest underscored the NPP’s strong democratic culture and commitment to internal cohesion.

Dr Opoku Prempeh stressed that the period of internal competition has now passed and that the party must redirect its energy toward shared objectives. He cautioned against lingering divisions, urging members to rise above personal interests and place the collective future of the party first.

Emphasising the importance of solidarity, he called on supporters at all levels to rally behind the newly elected flagbearer. He noted that unity would be essential in rebuilding confidence, strengthening the party’s structures, and positioning the NPP effectively ahead of the 2028 general elections.
