President Mahama Declares National Mourning After Tragic Helicopter Crash

In response to the devastating helicopter crash that claimed eight lives on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, President John Dramani Mahama has declared three days of national mourning, starting Thursday, August 7, 2025. In a press statement, the presidency described the incident as a national tragedy and directed that all flags be flown at half-mast across the country until further notice.

 

The President has also suspended all his scheduled activities and engagements for the remainder of the week. The military helicopter crash, which occurred in the Adansi area of the Ashanti Region, has sent shockwaves across the nation, prompting an outpouring of grief. Investigations into the cause of the crash are currently underway.

 

The statement, signed by Hon. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, was issued through the Chief of Staff, as the nation comes to terms with the tragic loss.
