Akosua Manu, Special Aide to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has challenged President John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to unveil their strategy for combating illegal mining, known as galamsey.

According to Manu, while in opposition, Mahama and his party vehemently criticized the Akufo-Addo administration over galamsey, but since assuming office, they’ve remained eerily silent on the issue.

Manu questions the NDC’s commitment to tackling galamsey, highlighting the contrast between their rhetoric while in opposition and their actions in government. She cites the NPP’s 2024 manifesto, which outlined a comprehensive plan to address galamsey through geological investigations and sustainable mining practices.

The Special Aide lambasts key NDC figures, including Communications Minister Sam George, Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu, Lands and Natural Resources Minister Kofi Armah Buah, and Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, for abandoning their calls for a state of emergency in mining areas.

Manu urges President Mahama to present concrete solutions to combat galamsey, stressing that partisan slogans won’t suffice in addressing this critical issue.
