Four people have died in two separate bee attack incidents in the Akatsi North and Anloga districts of the Volta Region.

In the latest incident, two pupils, 9-year-old Theodora Amewovi and 4-year-old Michael Kumeko, lost their lives after being stung by a swarm of bees at the E.P Basic School in Anloga. The incident occurred when the pupils were playing football and accidentally disturbed the bees’ nest while trying to retrieve a ball stuck in a nearby tree.

The Assemblyman for the area, Johnson Bokovi, explained that the bees attacked both teachers and pupils, including the headmaster, after being provoked by stones thrown at them. Two other learners were admitted to the Keta Municipal Hospital, with one later being discharged and the other still receiving treatment.

Earlier, on December 13, two adults died in a similar incident in Avega, Akatsi North district. One victim died on the farm, while the other, an elderly woman in her 80s, passed away hours later at the hospital. The recent incidents have left the community in shock.
