Fuel prices in Ghana are expected to decrease slightly starting today, December 16, 2025. According to the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC), the price of petrol will drop by 1.64% to 3.89%, bringing the pump price per liter to around GH¢12.90. Diesel prices are projected to decline by up to 4.59%, selling at approximately GH¢13.20 per liter. Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) will also experience a price drop of up to 2.16%, resulting in a kilogram selling at around GH¢14.00.

The reduction in fuel prices is attributed to the decline in international prices of finished petroleum products, driven by global oversupply. Although crude oil prices saw a marginal increase, major petroleum products recorded significant price drops – petrol fell by 6.5%, diesel dropped by 11.67%, and LPG eased by 0.22%. The Ghanaian cedi, however, depreciated slightly from GH¢11.14 to GH¢11.43 over the period.

Market analysts believe that the government needs to stabilize the Ghanaian cedi to sustain the current price relief at the pumps. They argue that without the recent pressure on the local currency, Ghana could have witnessed steeper fuel price reductions.

Projected Price Reductions:

Petrol:1.64% to 3.89% drop, GH¢12.90 per liter

Diesel: up to 4.59% drop, GH¢13.20 per liter

LPG:up to 2.16% drop, GH¢14.00 per kilogram

Follow-up questions:

– What impact will the projected fuel price reductions have on transport costs and inflation in Ghana?

– How can the government ensure sustained price relief at the pumps beyond the festive season?
