Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the former MP for Assin Central, has officially picked up nomination forms to contest for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer position in the 2028 election. The forms were collected on his behalf by Kwaku Kwarteng, MP for Obuasi West, along with other party officials, at the NPP headquarters in Accra on August 5, 2025.
Dr. Alex Ampaabeng, a former Deputy Finance Minister, has publicly endorsed Agyapong, describing him as the ideal candidate to lead the NPP and the country to prosperity. The NPP has opened nominations for its presidential primary, and several aspirants are expected to face a competitive race.
The nomination process comes with significant financial requirements, including a GH₵100,000 fee for the nomination forms and a final filing fee of GH₵500,000. Despite these hurdles, Agyapong’s decision to contest reflects his determination to lead the party.
