A viral video has sparked widespread outrage in Ghana after a man named Mustapha openly ridiculed Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, a revered traditional leader in the Ashanti Region. The video shows Mustapha mocking the Asantehene’s call for residents to observe an early curfew, saying “only fools will obey and sleep early.” This statement was widely condemned by the public, who view the Asantehene’s directives as essential to maintaining peace and order in the region.

The backlash was swift, with reports emerging that Mustapha was physically assaulted by unknown individuals, seemingly in retribution for his comments. Hours later, a new video surfaced on his social media page, where a visibly shaken Mustapha apologized profusely and recanted his earlier statements.

The incident highlights the deep respect accorded to traditional leaders in Ghana and raises concerns about vigilantism and the potential consequences of disrespecting cultural figures on social media.
