A devastating fire broke out at Dansoman Market in Accra early today, claiming the life of an 8-year-old girl who was trapped in the blaze.
The Ghana National Fire Service received a distress call at midnight and quickly dispatched a team to the scene. Despite arriving promptly, the firefighters found the inferno had already spread across multiple sections of the market.
The fire was intense, with flames engulfing wooden structures and shops. Thanks to the swift response and coordinated efforts of the firefighters, the blaze was confined to the affected areas, and nearby properties were saved. The firefighters battled the flames from multiple fronts, utilizing eight fire engines and two water tankers from the Accra Metropolitan Assembly.
Tragically, the young girl’s life could not be saved, and her charred body has been handed over to the police for further investigation. The cause of the fire remains unknown, and the Ghana National Fire Service is conducting investigations.
The market, a bustling hub of commercial activity, suffered significant damage, with several shops and wooden structures destroyed. However, the swift action of the firefighters prevented the fire from spreading, averting a potentially greater disaster.
